, the former Press Aide to Zambia’s former President Rupiah Banda, has been appointed as Zambia’s Country Representative and Board Member for the Africa Zone IV Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO) for a four-year term, effective January 1, 2025.
In a statement, Jere expressed gratitude for the opportunity and outlined his new responsibilities. “Effective tomorrow (yesterday), January 1, 2025, I will take up a new role as Zambia’s Country Representative and Board Member of the Africa Zone IV RADO for a fixed term of four years (2025–2028),” Jere announced.
The Africa Zone IV RADO was founded in 2006 through the collaborative efforts of African governments and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Its purpose is to combat doping in sports across member countries. The organization is headquartered in Botswana, with 11 member nations, including Zambia, and a reach that extends across southern Africa and beyond.
Jere’s appointment comes through the joint nomination of the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ).
He expressed his appreciation to the NOCZ Board and the Ministry of Sports and Arts for the trust they have placed in him. “I am grateful to the NOCZ Board and the Ministry of Sports and Arts for the confidence bestowed on me. We need more lawyers in sports administration to enhance the integrity and governance structures,” Jere said. As Zambia’s representative to RADO, Jere will oversee the country’s anti-doping programs in sports, ensuring the proper testing and monitoring of athletes. He also highlighted the need to enhance educational initiatives aimed at preventing doping among athletes.
“Simply, I will also take charge of the Anti-Doping programmes in sports in Zambia and coordinate the mandatory tests of athletes and enhance the education programmes,” Jere said.
In an important development, Jere noted that a new list of prohibited substances in sports would take effect on the same day he assumes his new role. “By coincidence, tomorrow (yesterday), a new list of prohibited drugs in sports will also become effective. So all athletes in Zambia must be familiar with the new drugs added to the list,” he urged.
Jere’s appointment marks a significant milestone in Zambia’s fight against doping in sports and its growing involvement in the global effort to ensure clean athletics across Africa.
