GOVERNMENT is concerned with the increased illegal charcoal making amidst climate change.
Green Economy and Environment Minister Mike Mposha revealed that there has been an increase in trucks ladden with charcoal being impounded by authorities.
Mr. Mposha said that majority of the traders in the charcoal industry did not poses lincenses to trade in charcoal.
He said as a result of not being licensed, such traders posed a risk to the climate.
Mr. Mposha said there was need for people to understand that there is a procedure to follow in chacoal trading which backed by the forestry Act and permits people trade.
He saids that there was need to change the narrative that the impounding of trucks carryign charcoal was politically motivated especially that legal chacoal traders were being allowed to do their businesses.
Meanhwile, Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakapwe has distanced himself and the office District Commissioner from allegations of sabotaging works of elected officials in Kabwe.
Mr. Mwanakapwe has further emphasized that he has no interest in contesting for any political seat in Kabwe as his service is to the people as a civil servant.
βElected officials in Kabwe should allow civil servants in the area to do their jobs without any interference from the political leadership. Civil servants especially in the office of the District Commissioner and Permanent Secretary are not allowed to do their works in certain jurisdictions for fear that they will accused of campaigning,β he said.
Mr. Mwanakapwe has urged elected officials especially Members of Parliament to ensure that they deliver for the people to avoid such misconceptions.
He said however his office enjoyed a cordial relationship with the office the mayor and the entire local authority.
