A four-year-old boy of Twapia Overspill Compound in Ndola, has died after the bedroom he was sleeping caught fire in the late hours of 29th December 2024.
Narrating the incident to YAR FM news, Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, said the fire was triggered by a candle that was lit in the room where the boy was sleeping with his cousin.
Mr. Mweemba, disclosed that the fire was successfully put out by neighbors who rushed to the house upon hearing a cry for help from the grandparents whom the deceased was staying with.
He added that after receiving distress call police rushed to the scene where it was discovered that the boy had been burnt beyond recognition and succumbed to death and items whose value is yet to be known in the bedroom reduced to ashes.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited in Arthur Davison Children’s hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem and subsequent burial.
