THE European Union (EU) has committed over €500 million Euros in grants to Zambia to support the country’s strategic development goals, EU Ambassador to Zambia Karolina Stasiak has announced.
Speaking at a development partnership event, Ambassador Stasiak said the funding would target key areas such as sustainable energy, infrastructure, and economic growth.
She highlighted that significant resources will be directed towards rehabilitating the Kariba Dam and constructing the Zambia-Tanzania Interconnector, both of which are expected to strengthen regional power trade and enhance energy reliability in Zambia.
The EU will also support the development of the Lobito Corridor to boost Zambia’s trade potential as a land-linked country and stimulate economic growth in the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces.
Furthermore, the ambassador said the EU is focused on promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices and value addition to help create jobs and benefit local communities.
Additionally, she said the EU-Zambia Forest Partnership will receive funding to promote sustainable forest management, curb deforestation, and support forest-based economic activities, contributing to Zambia’s green transition.
Minister of Labour and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba commended the EU’s support, which aligns with Zambia’s Eighth National Development Plan.
She said the support strengthens efforts in job creation, human development, and environmental sustainability.
