POWER Dynamos have surged to the top of the league standings after a dominant 3-1 victory over Nkwazi in an early kickoff yesterday at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
The win extended their unbeaten run and propelled them to first place in the league table.
Before the match, Kabwe Warriors were topping the table after a successful win against third-placed Zesco United on Saturday.
The match began with high intensity, as Power Dynamos pressed Nkwazi from the outset. Their pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Brian Masanyinga fired a stunning long-range strike from outside the box to give Power a 1-0 lead.
Nkwazi responded in the 30th minute, with Ismael Ankobo finding the back of the net to equalise and level the score at 1-1.
However, Power regained the lead in the second half when Jacob Phiri scored in the 67th minute, putting Power ahead 2-1. Nkwazi, despite their best efforts, struggled to break down Power’s solid defence.
The match was put beyond doubt in the 80th minute when Sekanji Siame netted a third goal for Power, securing the 3-1 victory.
Power sit at the top of the table with 28 points from 14 matches, while Nkwazi dropped to eighth place with 21 points from the same number of games.
Elsewhere, Red Arrows moved to fifth position with a 2-0 win over Atletico Lusaka. Lumwana, who have had a difficult season, secured only their second victory, beating Mutondo Stars 2-0.
Nchanga Rangers edged Forest Rangers 1-0, while Mufulira Wanderers won 2-1 over bottom-placed Indeni. In a thrilling encounter in Choma, Green Eagles played out a 3-3 draw with Zanaco.
