NEWLY elected Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba, his vice president Mutale Ng’andu and general secretary Reuben Kamanga, are in South America for the 75th FIFA Congress scheduled to take place in Asunción, Paraguay.
The high-level delegation are joining officials from all 211 FIFA member associations. The Congress, set to be held tomorrow at the Bourbon Asunción Convention Centre, marks a significant moment for the new FAZ leadership, especially for Mweemba, who will be making his debut appearance as president on the world stage.
Mweemba’s attendance at the Congress comes just days after securing the FAZ presidency in a tightly contested election held in Kabwe. He emerged victorious over incumbent Andrew Kamanga, signalling a new chapter for Zambian football.
The FIFA Congress serves as the organisation’s highest decision-making body, where key decisions affecting world football are discussed and adopted.
For Mweemba, this event offers an opportunity to begin forging new international relationships, align the country’s football governance with global standards, and engage directly with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and other influential figures in the sport.
Ng’andu, the newly installed vice president, also makes his debut on the international football scene.
Together with general secretary Kamanga, the Zambian delegation is expected to participate in a range of meetings, networking sessions, and strategic discussions that shape the future of the game.
The 75th edition of the Congress is expected to address pressing issues in world football, including governance reforms, funding mechanisms, youth development, and global tournament planning.
Mweemba has promised to prioritise transparency, grassroots development, and increased support for local clubs during his tenure.
His presence at the FIFA Congress is widely seen as a chance to put those ambitions on the international agenda and ensure Zambia remains a respected and active voice in global football affairs.
