The Committee of Trustees overseeing land and mining affairs in Muchinda Chiefdom has resolved to engage relevant authorities to revive delayed government projects and ensure proper regulation of mining activities.
Chairperson Raphael Lesa said the committee, appointed by Senior Chief Muchinda Kankomba Welala III, is prioritizing stalled projects such as the World Bank and African Development Bank-backed initiative in the Nansanga Farm Block. This aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s 2024 speech highlighting the importance of operationalising the farm block.
Mr Lesa urged all individuals involved in mining to submit proper documentation to facilitate cooperation and transparency between the chiefdom and the government.
He added that the committee intends to regularly engage the media to keep the public informed and uphold accountability, especially after 14 years of leadership vacuum which had led to rampant land grabbing and illegal mining.
