MINISTER of Education Mr Daglous Syakalima says government is dedicated to fostering partnerships with trade unions and other stakeholders in order to fully support teachers across the country.
Speaking at the first ever Quadrennial conference organized by the Dynamic Teachers’ Union of Zambia, Mr Syakalima said the government recognises the importance of teachers in society in shaping the future of every individual therefore empowering teachers is government’s priority.
He said empowered teachers inspire capable learners who later build strong communities and strong communities create a prosperous nation.
The minister says teachers should therefore know that government stands ready to change their welfare.
And Mr Syakalima said the government has made tremendous investments in free education, infrastructure development and teacher recruitment which stands at 40, 000 since 2021.
He encouraged teachers to continue working hard, shaping the future of the country and ensuring they deliver the best in their duties in order to produce the best citizens the country deserves in order to grow.
Africa Power coal to set up 300 megawatts power plant

AFRICAN Power Coal Managing Director Jacky Huang has announced that his firm will set up a 300 megawatts power plant in Sinazongwe District of Southern Province in order to cushion the power deficits.
Speaking during the Labour Day Awards in Sinazongwe, Mr Huang said the company is committed to the development of Zambia hence they are in the process of adding 300 megawatts to the national grid.
“I would like to inform you that the company is in the process of setting up a coal washing plant to add value to our coal. We are also setting up a 300 megawatts thermal power plant which will reduce the power deficits in the country,” he said.
He stated that the projects will position the company as leaders in coal and thermal businesses. These projects will not only modernise our operations but also position us as leaders in both the coal and thermal power businesses. Our team will play a role in both processes by ensuring that all the necessary resources and supports are in pace for the smooth launch of these projects,” he said.
He encouraged employees to participate in the completion of the projects.
“So, I encourage you our employees to actively participate in these projects by rendering the best of your services to the company,” he said.
He further expressed gratitude to the labour unions for helping the company improve labour conditions.
Meanwhile, African Power Coal award over 20 employees with various prizes for their edition to the company.
Mr Huang urged the employees to work hard and ensure that they continue contributing to the growth of the company.
