MUFULIRA United Football Club owner and US-based soccer administrator Robert Sakulanda has called for transparent and constitutional elections within the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) ahead of the upcoming polls.FAZ has set March 29, 2025, as the day for the much anticipated polls.Sakulanda, who is based in the United States of America, urged FAZ officials to follow the association’s constitution and ensure that the elections are held in a transparent manner. He said if the constitution mandates the elections to take place in February, then the process should proceed as scheduled. “My concern is about the upcoming FAZ elections. We need FAZ officials to be prudent and follow the constitution. If according to the constitution the FAZ elections need to be held this February, let it be,” he said.He said the elections should not be postponed to benefit any individual, stressing that no one is bigger than FAZ. “Elections cannot be postponed to suit one individual. No one is bigger than FAZ,” Sakulanda added. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the association is left in a better position than it was found, as FAZ will continue long after the current administrators have moved on. “FAZ will outlive each one of the administrators and individuals; hence, we must leave the association better than it was found,” he said. While Sakulanda admitted that FAZ elections could be postponed, he stressed that any such delay should be for valid reasons outlined in the constitution.
