…but UKA chairman Sakwiba Sikota SC says he is not interested in shadow boxing with the NDC leader, because the decision to expel her was a unanimous resolution by the UKA Council of Presidents—the alliance’s top governing body.
Saboi Imboela, one of the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) founding member, has been expelled from the Alliance, for persistent misconduct.
But Ms Imboela, President of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), has rejected her expulsion insisting that UKA chairman Sakwiba Sikota SC has no authority to remove her.
In a strongly worded response, Ms Imboela accused Mr Sikota of exceeding his mandate and concocting charges to push her out of the alliance. “Grandpa Saki has no powers to expel me,” she said. “He should retire and go home or focus on organizing his own political party.”
Later she posted that she would establish a new alliance
But Mr Sikota, in an exclusive interview with Daily Nation, dismissed the accusations, stating that the decision to expel Ms Imboela was not his alone, but a unanimous resolution by the UKA Council of Presidents—the alliance’s top governing body.
“She is clearly looking for a fight, but I will not be dragged into petty squabbles,” Mr Sikota said. “She can shadow box on her own. If we’re of no value to her as she claims, why is she clinging on?”
Mr Sikota said Ms Imboela’s expulsion was based on a consistent pattern of behavior, including public attacks on fellow alliance members and refusal to observe internal disciplinary processes.

“You not only attacked colleagues through the press and social media, but you did so repeatedly, even when urged to stop. That’s not in line with UKA’s values of unity and consensus,” Mr Sikota wrote in the official expulsion letter.
The letter, dated May 7, 2025, confirmed that Ms Imboela had failed to respond to misconduct charges within the stipulated five-day window and was therefore formally expelled. “We wish you the best in your future endeavours,” it concluded.
Ms Imboela, however, dismissed the expulsion as a sham. “I was never formally charged. He just sat on his verandah and decided to expel me,” she said defiantly. “I’m not going anywhere, and I will not dignify their letters with a response.”
She further claimed that Mr Sikota had attempted to blackmail her with a surprise K30,000 bill for a legal case he had previously handled pro bono.
Despite the internal turmoil, Mr Sikota emphasized that UKA would remain focused on its mission of offering Zambians a united and credible opposition ahead of the 2026 general elections. “We will continue to work with all progressive opposition parties. We won’t allow distractions to derail our cause.”
