POLITICAL analyst Dr. Alex Ng’oma says the reconciliation between the two Patriotic Front (PF) factions led by former President Edgar Lungu and Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa is a strategic move likely to strengthen the opposition’s standing.
In an interview, Dr. Ng’oma said the development should not cause alarm within the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), but instead serve as a prompt for the party to reassess its own strategies.
“Politics is a very unpredictable game. Things you least expect can happen and leave you completely surprise. Who would have thought that Miles Sampa and Edgar Lungu would reconcile? But here we are. This is strategy, and it’s not unusual in politics,” he said.
Dr. Ng’oma said while the PF unity could consolidate opposition support, it does not guarantee political dominance.
“There is no need for the ruling party to worry. They just need to think outside the box and reorganise. Let the best team carry the day,” he said.
“You don’t win elections just by coming together. What matters is how people vote.
The one who shouts the loudest isn’t always the strongest,” he added.
Last week, Mr Sampa announced the handover of the party to Mr Lungu and endorsed his candidature for the 2026 general
