GOVERNMENT Chief Whip Stafford Mulusa says Parliament building has enough space to accommodate Members of Parliament who will represent the 55 newly created constituencies, including 20 women, 12 youths, three persons with disabilities and elected through the mixed-proportional representation and the 10 nominated.
Mr Mulusa says when the numbers of the MPs increase, there shall be need to expand the sitting capacity and that Parliament would see how the House would be adjusted to accommodate the extra 100 seats.
“Yes, we have enough seats. I am sure that is what Parliament is planning and once the bill goes through, then Parliament should be planning to ensure that the expansion is done,” Mr Mulusa said.
Mr Mulusa, the UPND Solwezi Member of Parliament said Parliaments in other jurisdictions with more members than Zambia had provision of the upper decks and the Zambian Parliament too could learn from them.
