This follows a surge in road accidents attributed to reckless riding and disregard for traffic regulations.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, several Kaputa residents expressed concern over the growing number of accidents involving motorbikes, which have left many people injured and, in some cases, dead.
Wilson Chipili, a resident, said the situation has become alarming and called for urgent enforcement of road safety laws.
“We appreciate the role motorcycles play in improving local transportation, but the current level of indiscipline on our roads is unacceptable,” said Mr Chipili.
He added that some riders operate without helmets, while others carry more than two passengers and even speed through busy markets.
“We need authorities such as the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and Traffic police to take action before more lives are lost.” He said.
Arnold Chongo, another resident, lamented that most of the riders are young people who lack training and proper documentation.
“Many of these riders have no licenses and are unaware of basic road safety rules,” said Mr Chongo.
He further called on authorities to consider introducing training programs and ensure that only qualified individuals are allowed to operate.
Kaputa residents have appealed to relevant authorities to intervene and restore order among motorcycle riders in the area.
