United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Batuka Imenda has defended the ruling party’s record and praised President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, dismissing opposition criticisms as baseless.
Speaking during a press briefing, Mr Imenda said allegations from the Patriotic Front (PF) regarding the controversial Constitution Amendment Bill lacked evidence. He stated that the PF’s internal disorder was reflected in their constant accusations against sound governance.
“If Zambia were still under PF rule, lives would have been lost,” Mr Imenda claimed, adding that UPND has brought stability and order to the country. He welcomed defectors from the PF, noting that only those who recognise good leadership will align with the UPND.
Meanwhile, representatives from Friends of Bally applauded President Hichilema for prioritising education and youth participation in governance. They cited several initiatives that have empowered young Zambians to take part in national development.
UPND Media Secretary Mark Simuuwe reaffirmed the party’s commitment to placing the needs of the people at the forefront of government policy. He emphasised that the party remains focused on economic and social development, and on strengthening democratic institutions across the country.
