CHIEF Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has called on the Department of National Registration to issue National Registration Cards (NRCs) to all citizens, including those above the usual age limit. Mr Mweetwa, the Minister of Information and Media says it is essential for the Department of National Registration Cards to ensure that every citizen had the necessary documentation to access various government services, such as the cash for work program.Mr. Mweetwa has assured the public that the government’s national registration campaign would continue until 2026 to ensure that no citizen was left behind in accessing the crucial identity documents.Mweetwa has also addressed the growing dangers of scammers exploiting social media platforms to deceive citizens and rob them of their money. He warned that criminals were impersonating government officials, including ministers, in order to promote fake empowerment schemes. “No minister will quietly and secretly facilitate access to any empowerment programs. Those that are doing so are scammers,” Mr Mweetwa said.The Chief Government Spokesperson urged the public to be vigilant, advising against sending money to individuals they have not met in person, especially when dealing with social media contacts.
