PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has said it was a mistake to under rate the role Agriculture plays in economic development.
Speaking when officiating at the AgriTech Expo in Chisamba District, President Hichilema said government is committed to ensuring that Agriculture is prioritized in the country and citizens will begin to see the difference in the coming months and years.
He states that the more Government gets challenged, the more it is encouraged to work even harder to improve the Agriculture sector in Zambia. He states that the current shortage of mealie meal in the country is an indication that Zambia has to ramp up maize production. President Hichilema highlights that Zambia has the capacity to be a food basket in the region and can manage both domestic and foreign demand.
He adds that there is need for stakeholder’s collaboration in developing the Agriculture sector in order for the Sector to operate to its full potential. The President also said the country could do better and produce more efficiently in maize production to remove queues for mealie meal.
