The Zambian government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Angola through key infrastructure and energy projects aimed at boosting regional integration and trade.
During a courtesy visit to Angola on behalf of President Hakainde Hichilema, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Engineer Charles Milupi, emphasized Zambia’s interest in developing a cross-border electricity transmission line to tap into Angola’s surplus power supply.
Milupi noted that the Lobito Corridor — a major transport and trade route connecting Zambia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo — remains a cornerstone of regional integration and economic development.
He urged Angola to fast-track construction of the connecting road to Zambia’s Sikongo-Kalabo road, calling it essential for improving trade and connectivity between the two nations.
The minister also highlighted opportunities for expanding bilateral trade, particularly in beef and mealie meal exports, and stressed Zambia’s continued commitment to implementing the signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Angola.
Meanwhile, Angolan President João Lourenço echoed the importance of enhanced cooperation, stating that Angola remains committed to exploring new opportunities with Zambia for mutual economic benefit.
The renewed partnership signals growing momentum toward deeper economic and infrastructural collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
