Oliver Bulaya, the Executive Director of the Agriculture Climate Action Foundation, has praised the late President Edgar Lungu’s efforts to transform Zambia’s agricultural sector. Bulaya highlighted Lungu’s vision to make agriculture a cornerstone of the economy and ensure food security for all Zambians.
Under Lungu’s leadership, significant investments were made in infrastructure, such as roads and irrigation systems, including dams. Additionally, the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) expanded, providing subsidized fertilizers and seeds to smallholder farmers, which greatly increased food production. Bulaya also acknowledged Lungu’s push for crop diversification, encouraging the growth of soybeans, cassava, and other cash crops to reduce Zambia’s dependence on maize.
