The Department of Immigration has apprehended 97 suspected illegal immigrants in a series of enforcement operations conducted across Zambia between May 30 and June 1, 2025.
Chief Public Relations Officer Namati H. Nshinka disclosed that the operations led to the removal of 85 illegal immigrants and the conviction of 28 individuals for various immigration offenses.
The Lusaka Regional Immigration Office conducted raids in several parts of the capital, arresting 48 suspects, including 39 Burundians, seven Congolese, one Rwandan, and one Somali. In Kasempa, 21 individuals were apprehended, among them 20 Tanzanians and one Congolese refugee suspected of illegal mining.
Meanwhile, the Solwezi Immigration Office detained 14 Congolese refugees allegedly conducting business without permits. In Chipata, 14 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested, including 12 Malawians. The Lundazi Office rounded up seven Malawian nationals in Chasefu District.
Additionally, the Chingola Immigration Office successfully removed 19 Malawians convicted of illegal entry and trading without permits.
Nshinka urged the public to report any suspected illegal immigrants or immigration-related offenses to the nearest Immigration Office to help maintain law and order. “Let us work together to safeguard our national security,” he said
